When I finally got it set up, I was able to get a few HD Audio sound files (from here), like those demo files you used to see in front of movies that told you about the audio, and used the popcorn hour to play them on my system.
See Section 4 of the AVR 789 thread I linked above for a better write up.įast forward to a few weeks ago when my buddy gave me his old popcorn hour A-110 which would let me pass through pretty much any audio and/or video to my receiver. So yeah, the PS3 will do the job, but it won't work with my receiver to light up the pretty HD light. The same data gets to the same point, but in a different package. I understand that multi-channel PCM is the same data, like if I send a zip file with stuff in an email, or unzip all those files and send that same email. The problem is that it never gets a chance to do so since the PS3 decodes it prior to sending it to the receiver. Several of the blu-ray discs I own have these HD Audio tracks, and my receiver can play them just fine. What I mean when I say this is that I want to see the little indicator blue light on the front of my receiver illuminate when I watch a blu-ray movie with either DTS-HD Master Audio or DD-True HD. Now, and I know this may not seem rational, I want to see the HD Audio light illuminate when I play HD Audio.
I have an old-ish Denon AVR 789 receiver in my main TV room and it's great. I'm sure I can get help here since I think everyone must know more about this than me. When I turned to Google, I wasn't provided the quick, personalized answer I was hoping to find.
